Hi there. I’m Carolyn, a photographer, writer and cook living in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

When I had my senior portraits taken in 1996, the first time I smiled for the camera the photographer grimaced and said, “oooh, you have too toothy of a grin,” (what every 17 year old girl wants to hear) and didn’t allow me to smile for the rest of the photo shoot. Did that singular experience set me on a course to help people feel as comfortable as possible in front of the camera? It sure did. Do I hope that photographer found himself another line of work? Yup.

Part of helping people feel comfortable is being able to shoot quickly and intuitively, creating an environment where everyone feels at ease. I pride myself on that being the foundation of my work. If people feel like they can be themselves then the rest is easy, the photos turn out great and we all have a good time.

While I love the collaborative aspect of photographing people, I am also drawn to the balance of lines and angles found in architecture and nature. I love to cook and photograph food. Black and white double exposures are some of my favorite images to compose. I have also been getting into videography lately and loving it.

In other words, I am not one thing.

So if you have an idea for a photo or video project you don’t see listed, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am a creative, visual communicator and I love working with people to help bring their visions to life.
